This Month’s Scavenger:

Maggie Warren

“Every time I see someone light up about an observation, especially something small, I’m reminded that it’s good to show others when something sparks joy-it can become shared good.”

Meet Maggie

Phd student. Poet. Silly-goose extraordinaire.

When Maggie talks about paying attention, the world becomes more vibrant and joy becomes communal.

Her scavenger hunt item this month is a “Yes, and” moment-a moment when someone accepts another person’s invitation and builds on it.

Such a fitting choice!

Maggie notices color, rhythm, movement, music, and the way people influence each other.

Here’s what we asked her:

What ordinary things have brought you joy recently?

Pink, blue, and purple swirl cake mix.

Friends learning from each other’s interests.

An instant mood-boosting song from childhood.

When you slow down enough to notice the world, what do you notice first?

Colorful things.

The sounds of an environment.

Tempos (of movement and music).

Has there been a moment in your life that changed the way you pay attention?

Every time I see someone light up about an observation, especially something small, I’m reminded that it’s good to show others when something sparks joy-it can become shared good.

What’s one piece of advice you’d give someone who wants to notice more joy?

Catalog every sense separately.

Listen without looking.

Smell without feeling.

Feel without hearing.

Only then, link them back together.

Maggie would love for you to find a “Yes, and” moment this month. Look for a moment when someone says yes to another person’s idea and builds on it. Two people playing along together.

Thank you, Maggie for sharing your joy with us.
